ABOUT ERIN

A warm, practical guide for beautifully complicated kids and families.

Hi, I’m Erin McCarthy – a licensed clinical social worker and clinician who has spent nearly two decades helping children and families make sense of big emotions, unexpected behaviors, anxiety, avoidance, and the ever-evolving challenge of parenting.

● Nearly 20 years Experience

Evidence-based, honest, and grounded in real family life.

CLINICAL STYLE

At Pattern + Practice, I bring evidence-based approaches, practical wisdom, and deep respect for how hard parents are already trying. My work is warm, collaborative, and direct — with enough humor to make the hard conversations feel possible.

I specialize in in-home therapy and parent coaching because meaningful change often starts where families actually live: in the routines, relationships, stress points, and small daily moments where patterns show up.

BACKGROUND

I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my BA from Oberlin College, where I developed an early appreciation for the power of a good question. Since then, my career has included work in schools, hospitals, early childhood programs, and community mental health – as both a clinician and clinical supervisor supporting families in moments of crisis, transition, overwhelm, and everything in between. That background helps me look at the whole picture: the child, the caregivers, the environment, the expectations, and the patterns that keep everyone feeling stuck.

Unsure, overwhelmed, or ready for a fresh approach?
